Earning International Award after Researching Dove Orchid


Dove orchid (Dendrobium crumenatum Swartz) is not known by many people. The orchid only blossoms for once. It has the potential as anticancer candidate. Thus was the research conducted by a team from Biology Faculty of UGM, consisting of Ardaning Nuriliani, Nastiti Wijayanti, Atiek Kusmiyati, Yekti Asih Purwestri and Riski Topriyani.

According to Ardaning Nuriliani, M.Kes., research on dendrobium genus has been done in China, Japan and Africa for drug production. Dendrobium is believed to have anticancer and antitumor potential.

UGM Students Win Alternative Fuel Car Innovation


YOGYAKARTA – UGM students made an outstanding achievement by winning a competition in innovative cars using alternative fuel, organised at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh November (ITS) Surabaya from 3-5 May. Three UGM cars, Subali 4, Anjani 1 and Sugriwa 3, won first, third and favourite team respectively. The UGM Chem-E-Car team with 29 members have beaten 7 other teams from ITS, UI and Politeknik Negeri Bandung.

Hailing from Disadvantaged Region, Graduating Cumlaude from UGM

YOGYAKARTA –Kamelia Dwi Jayanti, 27, is one of 1,025 graduates of Graduate School who were inaugurated in Grha Sabha Pramana on Thursday (25/4). The young woman born in Poso, Central Sulawesi, graduated cumlaude with GPA 3.89. Hailing from one of regions that is still left behind compared to other Indonesia’s provinces, Kamelia completed her studies in one and a half years only. She is also the first to graduate in the soil science study programme.
