Sociologist: Going into Politics, Women Have to Dare and be Confident

YOGYAKARTA – The 30% quota for candidates of women MPs as mandated by  General Elections Law allows opportunity for women to be able to become formulators and policy makers. In fact, after three elections, the number of women in the legislative has not reached 30%. “In average, there are 12 percent of women in the legislative. It means that neither of political parties could meet the quota,” said sociologist of UGM, Dr. Partini, responding to the establishment of quota for women on Monday (22/4).

UGM Provides 1997 Seats to New Students through Entrance Test

UGM  provides a quota of 1997 seats to new students through the University Joint Entrance Test (SBMPTN) 2013, or 30% of the total new students (6,646). UGM Director of Academic Administration, Dr. Agr. Sri Peni Wastutiningsih, said in a press conference on the preparation of the test at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta on Thursday (18/4).

Peni said the quota was in line with the stipulation on new student admission set forth by government, which is SNMPTN by invitation: 50%, SBMPTN: 30% and independent selection: 20%.

Access to Campus, UGM Applies Smartcard


YOGYAKARTA - Universitas Gadjah Mada will test the use of smartcard with single ID on 22 April 2013 for access to campus to replace the Vehicle Identity Card. “The realisation of the smartcard is a priority as it is a strategic instrument replacing the Vehicle Identity Card to regulate traffic in the campus,” said UGM Executive Secretary, Drs. Gugup Kismono, MBA, Ph.D, on Wednesday (17/4).
