Given the importance of research activities, UGM has taken several steps to put more emphasis on research. One step brings together the research activities and community services into one agency called the Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM).
Institute for Research and Community Services or LPPM UGM was born as a result of the merger between the Institute for Research and the Institute of Community Services, GMU both institutions. The legal basis for its formation is the Rector's Decree number 47/P/SK/HT/2006. Through the merger of two institutions, it is hoped the results of research activities conducted at the UGM benefit the community and is close enough to the needs of stakeholders. Furthermore, expected by the union's role is to support LPPM UGM UGM to achieve its vision as an international research university optimally.
Structurally, the position is under the coordination LPPM Senior Vice Rector for Education, Research and Community Service. Therefore, in carrying out its activities LPPM consult and report results to the Senior Vice Rector for Education, Research, and Community Services.
