Kenali Gejala Long Covid Yang Bisa Muncul Usai Pulih dari Covid-19

Long Covid is a phenomenon that frequently happened as a part of the Covid-19 pandemic expansion. dr. Anton Sony Wibowo, Sp.THT-KL, M.Sc., FICS., as UGM Academic Hospital (RSA) ENT specialist, said that the term long covid is a long-term symptom of Covid-19 endured by patients several months right after infection or occurred during the recovery phase.

"Long covid is a persistent symptom of Covid-19, endured by patients after the recovery phase of the condition that is more than average time," he explained on Thursday (18/2).

Anton revealed from several studies that a long covid symptoms case was often discovered in patients aged 18-34. Meanwhile, about 20 percent of long covid patients endure persistent symptoms.

"Another report, according to Carfi et al., discovered that as many as 87.4 percent of patients who had had improvement on their condition remained to experience persistent symptoms for 60 days," explained the lecturer of UGM FKKMK.

Then, what kind of symptoms usually emerge in patients who have long covid? Anton explained that, in general, the long covid symptoms that emerge in the ENT-KL field cover the loss of the ability to smell (anosmia) and an impaired sense of smell in identifying smells (parosmia). The loss of the ability to taste (dysgeusia) is also one of the symptoms often found in patients with long covid.

Other symptoms that often emerge are coughing, shortness of breath, muscle pain, diarrhea, nausea, malaise, abdominal pain, and nervous disorders. It is not unusual for symptoms to emerge in the condition of difficulty thinking, shortness of breath, heart rhythm disturbances, and other symptoms of Covid.

"The impact of long covid reduces a person's quality of life and perhaps could emerge severe symptoms in special cases," he revealed.
