The Department of Architecture and Planning hosted the 2022 International Conference on Indonesian Architecture and Planning (ICIAP) on 13-14 October at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada.

The biennial conference was held on a hybrid basis and attended by hundreds of academics, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and the general public from Malaysia, Japan, China, Australia, England, New Zealand, and Indonesia.

Taking the theme Beyond Sustainability: Design, Planning, and Innovation, the conference put the latest architecture and planning-relevant issues on the table. This year, the committee accepted 185 abstract submissions in five categories and recognized 71 eligible papers through a double-blind review.

Shortlisted authors were invited to present their work at the conference, and their full papers were featured in the ICIAP proceeding, Lecture Notes of Civil Engineering (Springer, Scopus Q4), and partner journals, Kawistara, Teknosains, and BESt.

The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, opened the conference with Tourism and Sustainability and was followed by Prof. Wiendu Nuryanti from UGM, Prof. Michael Batty from UCL, and Prof. Sudaryono from UGM.

The conference also invited speakers from various institutions, such as Resilient Cities Network (Lusia Nini Purwajati), Urban+ (Sibarani Sofian), University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (Dagmar Grimm-Pretner), Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl (Jelle Hendrik Therry), Singapore University of Technology and Design (Immanuel Koh), Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (Noor Amila Wan Abdullah Zawawi), and Universitas Gadjah Mada (Prof. Eugenius Pradipto).
