YOGYAKARTA- You may still remember SEMAR UGM car which recently dominated the Shell Eco-Marathon Competition (SEM) 2011 at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia, as the Best Technical Innovation for prototype car category and the third winner in gasoline fuel efficient car for urban car category. This time the SEMAR team won the award again after making achievement in Youtube Viewer competition. "In this competition, SEMAR UGM team beat 10 teams from other universities in Indonesia, namely the teams of ITB, UI, and ITS," Christin Budiono, Non-technical Manager of SEMAR Team, said accompanied by Alfian Fisa, Chairman of SEMAR Team, Friday (22/7).
Christin added that YouTube viewer competition is a competition held by Shell Indonesia, especially in terms of strategy to communicate the product and team profiles to the public. This competition last from May to July 2011. Each team from universities participating in the prestigious event of SEM 2011 is required to make a video about their car and team profiles.
The video directed by Imanul Ilmi, a student of Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering class of 2009, was uploaded to the social networking site YouTube to be viewed by the public. "In addition to the quality and content of the video, the assessment must come from the marketing strategy of each team to capture as many voters as possible" he explained.
Meanwhile, at the same time Supervisor as well as PIC of SEMAR Team, Dr. Jayan Sentanuhady, added that in this competition, Shell Indonesia gives two awards, namely the most video viewer and the best video to the whole teams of SEM 2011. From these two categories, SEMAR UGM team won both of them and beat three other universities. "Since this paper was released, the video of SEMAR team has been viewed by 14,728 viewers" Jayan said.
As reported previously, in SEM 2011 competition, SEMAR team’s car successfully won two prestigious championships and defeated the 135 vehicles from 12 countries in Asia. The awards obtained in the event are The Best Technical Innovation for the prototype cars category and the third winner for gasoline fuel efficient car for urban car category.
